A matched pair would have been a better purchase.
I bought of these for use in my vintage Conrad Johnson PV9 preamp. The first day the sounded thin. The second day the sound stage expanded and voices improved with greater warmth. With these 12AX7b tubes in place the PV9 sounds more solid state. I did notice the voices of the background singers sounded as separate singers. A matched pair would have been a better purchase.

Best Chinese 12AX7 tubes I have heard.
Tubes do take awhile to "run-in", and I haven't really given these tubes any time at all to do so. That being understood, and understanding that my listening was brief, 2 songs. Furthermore, it should be understood that, for instance, I spent something like $1,000 on parts for the crossovers in my speakers. I have upgraded every component in my system. Preliminaries finished, I'll proceed with my initial impressions. These are not bad, they do sound more solid state than tube though. That may translate as accurate, but if your using tubes, you want that tube magic. I have been using NOS Amperex tubes from Holland. These tubes do not have the, shall we say, sexy, for lack of a more accurate word, sound that the Amperex tubes have. I have no idea what you'd have to pay for NOS Amperex these days, but they are worth it. If you can't afford sexy, at least thus far, these will give you a respectable rendering of your music, unlike Chinese, Japanese, and even NOS American tubes at times, which I have heard in the past. It's pretty hard to beat these tubes for the money, and they very well may even open up further, perhaps even produce some magic of their own after 20 or 30 hours. I'll certainly say something should that be the case.

Great pre-amp tubes.
I have a line 6 Spider Valve 212, which utilizes a tube amp designed by Bogner. I was having trouble with the volume so I decided to change out the tubes. I read somewhere that the Bogner amps use Bugera pre-amp tubes, so I decided to give them a try. The Line 6 comes default with chinese tubes, so I hoped these tubes would improve the sound somewhat. I had no trouble swapping the Bugera tubes out with the Chinese tubes, but the sound was awful when I first turned on the amp--unwanted distortion and low volume. I got ready to send them back, but I read that this effect can be caused by poor socket connection. Even though I didn't think it would work, I unplugged the tubes, brushed off the contacts, and plugged them back in. It worked! They have an amazing, smooth, full sound. It's less bright, but in a good way, in my opinion. I would definitely buy them again.
